Chicago Billionaire Barre Seid Implicated as Anonymous Donor in Renaming of George Mason Law School

Investigative reporting by Allison Pienta suggests that Barre Seid, Chicago Billionaire “Closely Allied” with the Koch Brothers and Implicated in Funding Climate-Change Denial and Islamophobia, Is Anonymous “Dark Money” Donor Behind Renaming of George Mason University’s Law School.
Ms. Pienta’s report provides insight into Mr. Seid’s decade-long relationship with George Mason University, including his donations to support the training of federal judges, use of donor-advised funds to conceal donor identity, ongoing communications with law school leadership about faculty hiring (including Senior Judge Douglas Ginsberg), and using university resources to develop a program on “overreach” in “patent jurisprudence.” Mr. Seid’s Chicago companies hold over a dozen patents and have been sued for patent infringement.

Kick koch-funded centers off of george mason university’s campus!
Last month, the student organization Transparent GMU launched a campaign calling on the Interim President and Board of Visitors to fully end George Mason University’s affiliation with centers funded by the Koch donor network. This would include the Mercatus Center, the Institute for Humane Studies, the Law and Economics Center, among others.
