CANDIDATE SCORECARD 2022:
United States Midterm Elections
This Candidate Scorecard Report highlights where the 2022 candidates for select midterm campaigns stand on issues that are most relevant during the present political moment. As we approach the primaries and November 8th, we hope this report will inform voters of candidates’ values and equip advocates with content to supplement voter education campaigns. We also intend for this report to encourage deeper conversations about holding our elected officials accountable for serving the will of the people, not corporate funders.
The issues explored in this report include climate and environment, public education, voting rights, the right to protest, reproductive healthcare, criminal justice, and money in politics. Scorecards for incumbent candidates also note whether or not they are affiliated with the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), a Koch-funded organization that brings public officials together with corporate advocates to write legislation. Scorecards also include how much money, if any, a candidate has received directly from Charles Koch and notes the instances where the total includes donations from the Koch-funded astroturf organization, Americans For Prosperity (specific monetary amounts are listed in our spreadsheet).
UnKoch My Campus chose to focus on races where incumbents have a history of accepting Koch donations, and focused on issue areas that align in some way with the Koch network’s regressive political agenda. We view this Candidate Scorecard Report as a pathway to deepen political education, agitate against insufficient narratives within electoral politics, and bring electoral organizers into community-centered campaigns long after November 8th.
